Happy Hour : A Quick Holiday Tree

Every been in a restaurant when it turns "Happy Hour?" You notice the mood instantly changes as everyone is ready for fun. Whenever I'm having a Bad Hair Day, my cure is always a personal Happy Hour. Of course, I'm hopeless addicted to interiors; so for me, this hour is all about decorating. In this series, we'll look at some quick and happy mood changers for our very own Happy Hour. Each should take about an hour - a mere 60 minutes - to perk up our minds and our rooms. Let's get the party started.

Forgive me for mentioning Christmas before Thanksgiving, but I can't help myself. Have you seen these little trees made from paperback books or glossy magazines? These sweet trees can be easily made while watching a football game or a holiday movie on TV. Let's take a look.

To make this little tree, you'll need a magazine. That's it.

I used a 130-page Veranda because it has thicker paper stock. But really, any magazine wll do. That knife-looking tool is a bone folder. After you fold a page, you rub over your fold for a crisp edge. A table knife or the edge of scissors will work just as well.

Each page will needs three folds. The first is simply fold the page towards the center of the magazine.

Make a second fold by folding the first fold once again toward the center.

Fold the small end in between the first two folds. No need to glue or tape.

This is what it looks like about half way through. I did not fold the front and back covers but removed them as they had a different thickness than the pages.

You can glue the first and last pages together but I didn't bother. I glued a little ornament on top. Done and dusted.

For another tree, I used a paperback. Fold each page the same. I think this book had about 140 pages.

If you'd like a base, you can use a candlestick, a plate or a piece of wood. You can spray the tree with gold paint, flock it, add those tiny fairy lights. The sky's the limit.

I saw this tree on Etsy for $65. Isn't it cute?

If you want to get fancy, this adorable tree involves cutting a series of disks from paper is various sizes. You'll need a skewer, a base and a glue gun. So there's that. If you're watching a game or a movie this afternoon, give a paper tree a try. It's theraputic if nothing else. Happy Sunday!
