DecorBook Classic : Easter at Home
Easter at Home has never been so literal. Easter is usually a quiet day for us but this year, I'm feeling a bit lonely. That got me to thinking. Maybe a few trips to the basement would cheer me up. Clear plastic storage bins labelled Blue and Easter were all I needed for a quick change in our rooms. Let's take a look at how they turned out.
In the entry, garden bunnies (Target), magnolia branches (Michael's) and my whole moss ball collection fills a garden urn.
Thought a bit of blue&white would set the stage for the living room.
View of living room and foggy skies.
Mantel with blue&white.
That cement rabbit with black glass eyes was found at the Alameda Flea Market some years back. The owner wanted $20 which just seemed like way too much. He said he wouldn't go lower as a lot of people had picked it up and he knew a sale was imminent. He was firm so I let go of my $20 and never looked back.
Homemade pillow covers. Fabric from a shower curtain (Target) on skinny pillow. The other pillow is covered a remanent (Joann's). All are stuffed with IKEA down inserts.
In our sunroom (originally the dining room) with pillows covered with another shower curtain (Target). A cotton shower curtain is great for a pillow cover as it is usually a heavier fabric and 60" wide x 60" long - big enough for 2 pillows, 24" square. The hanging light fixture was a steal at $19.99 (EBay) although it was brass-like until I sprayed with flat black paint.
This five dollar fern came in it's own white pot (Home Depot). Books (Dollar Store) are a good source of color as well. Plus, you can get in a good read.
And what about this herd of rabbits you saw up at the top? They came from an unlikely source, Blockbuster (remember when you went to a store to rent a movie?), discovered for $1 each in a closeout bin. Once, you could squeeze them and they would say the most unsavory things, not at all suitable for an Easter bunny. When the ability to talk eventually wore down, they got green grosgrain ties and what's left are 7 bunnies perched on the settee in my office. Well, that's it for a quick decorating update. I do feel better as now it feels like Easter around here. Here's to being thankful for what we have!
