What's New — Places We Go

Places We Go : House Hunters International

posted on

Do you love House Hunters International?  At our house, we take a 30-minute trip to some exotic locale a few nights a week.  Technically a "scripted reality show," it features someone who is moving to a new country.  We follow them as they tour three homes to either rent or buy.  Sometimes, it's a college student with $250 per month and other times, it's a couple with a boatload of money.  Either way, it's fun to see what's offered in other countries and how getting a place works.  Some countries don't have mortgages and some require a full year's rent before move-in day.

Turns out that after the filming, two of my favorite properties went through major renovations in preparation to become rental properties. Each have been featured in shelter magazines and on Pinterest.  Since both can now be rented, not only can we drool at home, we could actually stay there.  Let's take a look.

Do you have a little getaway?  If money were no object, my idea of a weekend place would be right in our backyard in Oakland, CA.  Nestled up against a regional part, the woods behind our house would be a perfect spot for a little vacation place.  I can imagine it near the deer path with an occasional tarantula, gopher snake or mountain lion passing by.

Places We Go : Online Sales

Some of my favorite things are on sale this weekend.  Some are just for fun like this blue garden seat ($89 at Ballard Designs).  And some are splurges.  Let's face it.  Some creature comforts are worth the investment.  And when they're on sale, so much the better.  These products last and last and last so if you put a pencil to it, they might even be less expensive in the long run.  Let's take a look.

Places We Go : glassybaby

Do you love colored glass objects?  I've never really been in love with colored glass but my field trip to Glassybaby may have changed all that.  In search for something yellow for the living room mantel and armed with a ceramic pear and pillow fabric, I ventured over to glassybaby's hot shop in Berkeley, CA.
