Color Game : Think Pink

posted on

If a hot pink cuckoo clock makes you smile, how about mixing your rooms with a little blast of hot pink this spring?  I hadn't thought of that until yesterday when Jayne and I saw the Oscar de la Renta retrospective at the de Young Museum (San Francisco).  130 ensembles, including those worn by Taylor Swift & Rihanna and first ladies Hillary Clinton & Laura Bush.  Talk about a rush.  There was one gown I can't stop thinking about and you guessed it - it was hot pink!  So fresh for this spring.

That got me thinking of some inexpensive ways to brighten our rooms - and don't you love this old timey cuckoo clock brought into this century with a quick spray of pink?

Oscar de La Renta, Fall, 2013

My inspiration - Oscar de la Renta's evening gown in fuchsia silk faille and metallic embroidery.  I forgot my phone but fortunately, Jayne handed over hers so I could capture this dress.

organize sem frescuras!

For the living room, this neutral sofa and end table can be quickly pinked with pillows and flowers.

Hot pink in the kitchen? Try a plastic outdoor rug from Cost Plus World Market.

Look through your bookshelves for a few hot pink books.

In the bedroom, drape a sheet in a hot pink print over your headboard and don't forget to spray paint the lamp shade.

Thrift store mirrors get pinked with a quick spray.

A throw (or a length of fabric) on the back of a chair makes for a quick pop of color.

Bring your pinked theme outdoors - hot pink spray paint perks up old teak chairs.

Thanks to the artistry of Oscar de La Renta for inspiring me to think pink. Why not live with a little hot pink this spring?  A magical color to instantly lift the mood of your rooms and announce to all visitors, "Hey, this house is going to be fun!"

  • Ruthann sent me another hot pink color combination from her garden – hot pink and bright yellow roses. Layne loves pink&green and she’s right, that combination is timeless. Elektra has joined the Hot Pink Brigade by just looking out her Portland window. That got me to thinking – hot pink brightens up our lives, naturally.

  • hot pink to spice up a room—fabulous (just like having a pop of red or black as a Big Wake Up Dec Moment?? in a room) The Oscar retrospective at the deYoung looks yummy too—but I especially love the myriad hot pinks in this week’s blog—and plan to use some in our master BR, already awash in flowers, many a more subdued pink—but with hot pink rhodies winking at us from the garden beyond the bedroom’s french doors leading out. (And WHY did I give away an old mirror recently? A perfect candidate for the Hot Pink Brigade!!!) Thanks for inspired ideas!
